Pinot Noir
Renowned for Pinot Noir and aromatic white wines, Central Otago is a comparatively small growing region with 2000ha under vine, but with a global reputation for high quality, fruit driven wines that capture the essence of the dramatic landscape. The warm summer days and cold nights are key to the winegrowing, allowing the grapes to retain acidity and build flavour complexity, whilst the protection of the surrounding mountains shelter Central Otago from rain and cold southerly winds.
Sub regional differences with soil, aspect and altitude are important, adding nuance and diversity to the wines made.
